Pretty good, just change your class name from fort to Main for it to run in the compiler, otherwise declare a file named fort.java.

How does JAVA work?
posted to Ask by anonymous360c

Java is a low level, statically typed, object-oriented language primarily used for backend applications. Although it doesn't work as closely with computer hardware as C/C++ or Assembly, it's still fairly versatile and can be compiled on numerous devices enabled by the JVM (Java virtual machine) and JRE (Java Runtime Environment).

@viraatvv Well I need to know what the project is about before deciding, and if I have time or not.

You wouldn't mind adding a description of what this is about? Curious at least.

Nice!

what method do I use to get a single char to complete the statement.
posted to Ask by GregBeutler

There are some problems in this code:

  • You are using the hasNext() method, which is more favourable in a recursive nature if you want to continue receiving input, suitable for a while loop instead of an if statement
  • You are using the read() function in conjunction with System.in along with the wrong input class (Scanner). Use a buffered reader instead to access read() method, or just replace it with in.nextChar()
  • Why are you using a char to hold a string input? A name contains more than one character, and last time I checked char variables can only hold one character. Replace this with a string variable for reading input
  • Lastly, what event handler are you trying to use? This program only facilitates input/output operations. If you want to trigger events with the keyboard, import the key listener class and implement the methods necessary.

Have you considered using a GUI to display some of your projects/games? That would be pretty cool if a bit tricky.

@08KINPLIX I know how to utilize action listeners such as keypresses from the user to move whatever is on screen. I assume you want the steve avatar to only move up and down in response to player input?
