Happy New Years from the Repl Talk Mods!
Happy new year!
Hello repl, I’m Dart one of the many talk feed moderators, 2020 was a crazy year, a lot of stuff happened on repl, and so this year I thought I would get responses from all the staff to get advice for the new year as well as highlights from last year. So here are the responses from the repl team:
H or @TheDrone7’s highlight:
H’s highlight from this year was the language jam, and a message he has for you guys moving forward is “YOLO, so learn as many langs as you can and try to beat @theangryepicbanana”
Here is some advice from H for 2021:
“Don't be dumb, keep a life. Don't try too hard at things, try to enjoy them.”
Zwacks or @21natzil's highlight/what he wants to say to the community:
“I completed my Eagle scout project this year, and I'd like to tell the community of 2021 to continue making friends. You can never have enough.”
Advice from Zwack for 2021:
“Let people do their job, and respect that.”
“Joining the Repl.it team and being honored to have the position I have.”
Advice from Piero for 2021:
“Staying inside while playing CS:GO and programming is healthy.”
“Well, for me the highlight for 2020 is simply joining the repl.it community. Surprisingly, I am pretty new to repl.it compared to most people. Of course I had been on repl.it for just school, although that's looking less likely to continue as we are being forced to move from a completely free product to $1000 every year!! just using repl.it for school meant that I never interacted with the community, until one day during lockdown my electronics teacher decided to use discord to teach a lesson. This excuse for me to be allowed on discord meant that I was able to join the repl.it discord server which is really where the community is. repl talk is great and all that, but the discord server is where you want to be if you want to really play a part in this wonderful community. and honestly, if it wasn't for this community, I would have never learnt how to program properly. I would have just stuck to whatever was going on in school. it really encouraged me to delve deeper into what else programming is other than meaningless tasks to practice while loops. so I just want to say thank you to this community, as to quite a great extent they are responsible for my interest in programming.”
Here is some advice from Cactus for 2021:
“There are so many new things that I have learnt this year, but I guess if I were to choose one piece of advice, I don't know why, but minx telling me to always validate on the backend sticks in
@Zavexeon’s highlight/what he wants to say to the community:
“The biggest highlight of 2020 for me was becoming 18. It's nice knowing that I can take charge of my own life now. As for what I want to say to the community: It's probably a good idea to at least graduate highschool so don't dig yourself into a hole like me. “
Advice from Zave for 2021:
“I wish I would of known that not caring what other's think is really helpful. I wasted a lot of energy being anxious about what others thought of me, so going into 2021 I'm going to be trying to be less worried with other's opinions on me.”
@CodeLongAndPros’s highlight/what he wants to say to the community:
“A highlight was entering the Replit community. And I'd just like to say "Happy Hacking!"”
Advice from Codelong for 2021:
“Either "any year starting with 202 sucks" or "EMERGENCY TEMPORAL SHIFT!!!"”
TheDevBird’s or @Vandesm14's highlight:
“The PL jam and the new Teams feature”
What TheDevbird wants to say to the community:
“Keep up the good work!”
Advice from TheDevBird for 2021:
“Be careful with git on repl.it, it might break or delete code”
“I would have to say my highlight from 2020 would probably be coming back to the repl community after the break I took. No community will ever be as great as this one!”
Some advice from Dart for 2021:
“No matter how bad things get friends will always be there to help you out, don't take them for granted.”
@theangryepicbanana's highlight/what he wants to say to the community:
“highlight: the game jam using repl teams. other thing: stay tuned for the next episode”
Advice from Angry for 2021:
“we need to be more organized lol”
@Bookie0's highlights/what he wants to say to the community:
“Learning LOLCODE; it really was a really fun experience. Also getting back into coding during coronavirus, as long days of boredom at home made me come back to repl.it. Was also cool to join the repl.it discord server, met many cool people lol! What to say: keep on going and have fun I guess! ;)”
Advice from Bookie0 for 2021:
“Help people. It’s always cool to help someone gain new knowledge. Also, try not to spam repl talk. And don’t mind those cycles, keep on posting cool stuff lol! :D and uh have a great year 2021!”
@Coder100’s highlights/what he wants to say to the community:
“2020 had a lot of ups and downs, but one of the best things about repl.it was that it has expanded so much larger! Not just in infrastructure and languages supported, but also in the community itself. So many great repls have been posted on repl talk! And one thing I would say going into 2021 is that everyone should keep making these awesome repls and keep growing and making repl.it the great place it is today!”
Advice from Coder100 for 2021:
"Some advice I will take to 2021 was to try and learn more languages! It has really helped me grow to become a better coder, and I have learned so many more tips and tricks to efficiently solve a problem."
@DynamicSquid's highlights/what he wants to say to the community:
“One highlight from the repl.it community is the number of new things I've learned from all the awesome community members! At the start of the year, I was learning C++, and there wasn't a shortage of people willing to spend time helping me out. At summer, I got into language development, and there were plenty of people doing the same thing, providing me with useful feedback and the motivation to keep going. I hope to contribute back to the community in 2021 just as much as the community has helped me :)”
Advice from Dynamicsquid for 2021:
“I wish I participated in more open source projects / collaborations. For the most of this year, I kind of just stuck to myself, with only a few projects with others. Next year, I'll try to collaborate with more people, not just on repl.it, but on other platforms as well.”
if you guys have a highlight yourself feel free to comment it below!
