I'm an intelligent dragon who likes to program. I live in the Reptilian Empire, Draconyx, but I can't find it on the world maps. I use python because it's the name of one of my relatives.

9

Hello All! I am a fellow reptile and looking forward to using the platform. Let's all do our very best!

6

@qtip2001 Ahh thank you Qtip I too am a cold-blooded coder. Please to meet you :)

Hey guys, I'm Camden!

I started programming in June 2016 on Khan Academy. I'm home-schooled, and the co-op that I go to during the school year was hosting a "learn ProcessingJS for a few hours twice a week with your friends and then you can have lunch and play in the pool or whatever" kind of thing. So I figured this would be pretty fun, since I love hanging out with my friends, plus my brother had learned ProcessingJS before and I wanted to make things like he had. I did this for about a month until the course ended, and I was one of the few people that actually stuck with the course and was interested in this kind of stuff.

From there, I made some cool programs, but I really wanted to take my skills further, and my main goal was to code my own website (though I was quite naive about how to do that at the time). In September I started learning HTML and CSS on Khan Academy. That was a lot of fun, but I was unsatisfied with the fact that you can't really make stuff happen with HTML and CSS. Sure you can animate and all that, but you can't really interact.

After during research, I realized JavaScript was what I wanted, so I was like "Hey! I already know JavaScript (lies)". I soon found out that ProcessingJS works nothing like JavaScript, and that got me pretty mad.

I kinda stopped programming until December (still 2016), when I decided to learn Python on Codecademy. However, I'm a visual learner, and so reading all that text just wasn't working. I learn from practice and seeing someone do it, so I decided to learn it by myself.

My first ever program on Repl.it (and my first official Python program in general) was the Password Generator, which was made on January 11th, 2017. You can find that here: https://repl.it/@CyanCoding/Password-Generator. Honestly it's a pretty stupid program, because it does something super simple but acts like it is doing something soooo complex and amazing. But admittedly I was pretty wowed by the fact that I could do this after about 1-2 weeks of self-practice.

From there I kept programming, making random programs and all, learning as I went. I also decided to go back to HTML, and so I made the "HTML Hub" (https://repl.it/@CyanCoding/HTML-Hub), which was a site on Repl.it that I made to give to my friends so they could easily check out my programs. It looked trash but if you take a look at the CSS you can pick up that I wasn't quite professional yet.

Now this post is getting super long so I'm just going to say that from there I decided to learn JavaScript, C++, and PHP in March. Now, while I didn't self-teach myself with these, I didn't take like a super crazy in-depth course. I definitely wasn't a master. In May I created the Tic-Tac-Toe program, which you can find around here. It got some good votes in the first I Built This. In June I decided to actually put the "HTML Hub" onto a website.

It definitely looked better than what is now the "Old HTML Hub" (what you saw earlier), but it was still pretty scary. On July 28th I renamed the site to "CyanCoding", which I felt was more personal. In July I also learned SQL, SCSS, jQuery, and Ruby. In October I learned Bootstrap.

In November I made a huge renovation to CyanCoding, which is reflected by its current state (though I brought the site down because of low traffic in June 2018). Things start getting serious in January and February, and I'll try to start hurrying up (sorry mods!).

Basically my friend, who was the graphic designer for my programs and website, really wanted to get into game dev, and so I tried it with C++ and UE 4, but it was too thick for me, and I couldn't figure it out. In March I decided to switch to C# because it was much more modern and I have a friend who programs in it for a living. I went to Unity, and used that for two months. I was making some great content, but I really wasn't enjoying game dev that much, so I decided to drop it.

After that, I decided to switch to Java (I hope to stick with this one for a long time ;]) because of the difficulty of cross-platform programming with C#. My main goal right now is to make fun programs I can use with my friends, and that means crossing the cross-platform barrier.

So that was like super long and I apologize for exaggerating the "share a few words", but whatevs. Oh also if you couldn't tell by my really high karma/cycles count I won the first I Built This challenge in February, and had several other programs with a good deal of votes.

I'm really thankful for Repl.it. I first found it when I searched "Python 3 editor" (I didn't know computer slang back then) and while I don't use it nearly as much as I used to, it's definitely my go-to for when I'm not on my home computer!

Thanks so much for reading my book!

P.S The Repl.it T-Shirts are soooo comfy, I wear mine as soon as it's clean. I'd definitely get one if I were you. (https://teespring.com/first-repl-it-swag#pid=2&cid=576&sid=front)

@CyanCoding Camden, that's an inspiring story from the undisputed champ on Repl.it.

I'm looking forward to your next novel 😅

1

@CyanCoding your KA story is exactly what happened to me

3

@theangryepicbanana, @CyanCoding Same here. I also had the false "I know JavaScript!" mindset ;). I didn't even know what the difference was between an integer and a float, nor did I know the proper way to define a function...

Speaking of which, KA teaches some bad practices, such as using the following to define a function:

var myFunction = function(parameter1, parameter2) {
    //code
}

As opposed to

function myFunction(parameter1, parameter2) {
    //code
}

Khan Academy is a good start for programmers, but once you really get going (building websites and such) you realize that you need to change your ways.

Aaaaand I'm rambling on and on and I should probably just hit the "comment" button already.

P.S. The site I linked to is, in fact, the site that I built awhile ago :). Kinda bad tho

1

@Lumpy_Wiggles I believe the reason why it used bad practices was because it used Processing.js, which turns the JavaScript code into a Java Applet, so it had some limitations.

1

@CyanCoding u helped me a lot through maths heart eyes

1

@fashoi nice! are you the same school?

1

@amasad im not sure. ok then, where are u from?

1

@CyanCoding thanks for writing this! very inspirational - I checked our your programs and they're really cool. keep it up man! :)

1

@fashoi haha sorry I'm home schooled :) that's why I have so much time to code

1

@umairamin Thanks :D I had a long story to tell.

1

@CyanCoding haters gonna hate. Your story is inspiring.

1

@CyanCoding Cool story! I recommend Node.js which is what I'm learning right now.

10

I'll start: my name is Amjad Masad and I'm CEO at Repl.it. I love programming, and I come to work every day to make it easy for everyone to learn how to code and to build awesome apps and programs.

I also code for fun and you could find me posting some of my programs here on this forum.

4

Hi @amasad. Thanks for helping with making and running Repl.it. I think i speak for all of us using Repl.it when i say i really appreciate that you helped make this website for everyone to use and for everyone to learn coding and programming.

2

@UndertaleRulez and I'll reply on the behalf of Amjad and the team. Thanks for your kind words, that's what keeps us going. We want to make it even easier and easier for you to learn programming and make friends on Repl.it and collaborate with other people around the world on projects.

1

@amasad hi amjad up for a coding? Can you help me with python

5

Hi I am Bob and I think this says it all.

Hi i'm Mark I'm doing my GCSEs this year and i just finished making a simple encryption/decryption program👍👍

3

@MarkFerreira
Same for me (the encryption i mean)

6

Hey there, Mr. Rob here.

Got into programming hacking games on my Atari 800 and playing Zork. Was way into languages having learned French and Russian and lived and worked there. Wrote language software when the Internet came out.

Before that I was a skater, cyclist (road and moutain, MOAB baby), white-water river guide, and eventually cruise director on the Volga river in Russia. Nearly arrested for hacking in Russia just for using CompuServe to save on Fax costs (wow does that date me). Met more than a dozen spies, old school and new while there but never actually got to become one (probably a good thing).

Taught myself HTML before there was a single book on it. Wrote the world's first HTML form processing script (fb.pl) and hosted on my home Mac. Installed Mach Linux on a Mac. Helped form Fibernet and had people say, "Why would I want to be on the Internet? That is for academics and military." So moved to Oregon where I was the "CGI Guy" for 3 years at Teleport. Wrote the world's first web-based web page creation tool Teleport Webspinner (way before Frontpage was a thing). Wrote code that automated the creation of Apache virtual servers creating hundreds in fraction of the time.

Headhunted into Nike where I built their first Intranet web portal and created Nike's first live "blog" to cover the Nagano Olympics (which I got to cover live from Japan). Presented to hundreds at Nike conferences about the new "emerging language Java". Brought Linux into Nike (before it was considered legit).

Headhunted to IBM to code Java but became sysadmin/developer and created all kinds of fun stuff including a high-level network protocol using MIME-based, GPG to create secure footprints for security compliance audits of 52,000 machines. It was awesome! Some of the most fun I have ever had. Architected the PostgreSQL DB (when everyone else was going MySQL). Created a UUID schema and architecture for the company. Found memory leaks in 64,000 lines of bad C code and decided to leave.

Retired to start SkilStak Coding Arts (skilstak.io) where I teach a handful (70-100) brilliant students boutique-music-lessons style in semi-private lessons and have pioneered new modular education models (soilsrc.org) to enable knowledge to be shared and managed like source code.

Discovered REPL.it and bagged on it at first for "not being real" but I could not be more wrong. It is as real as most people will be able to use and much more than an educational tool. Our students were using skilstak.sh, a command-line only Linux machine to write code and run our skilbot and challenge bots. We went 5 years without anyone claiming the bounty of $200 for anyone able to find any school or organization teaching kids as young at 8 to use the Linux command line and specifically to write code on a terminal with vi/vim.

Love everything about REPL.it and the company (other than the React bias 😁 I am a big Vuejs fan).

Keep it going. (Plug: We do remote 1-1 private lessons now as well.)

1

@robmuh good to see you here, Rob. And an awesome story, much respect.

p.s. I miss the simplicity of the CGI world. So simple, and the program can leak memory and do whatever because it's discarded at the end of the request 🙏

5

Hi all, I am a computer science grad and been using replit since last year , i am using it extensively mostly for my python3, c++ and sometimes for C and java as well. Its a quick platform for executing your programs without having to setup the environment in your own PC. Loving the service

2

@Rand0mb0t awesome! Welcome. You should try it to host prototypes and webservices too :) Try django or flask for example.

2

@amasad There's flask? I can't see it listed.

2

@CaptainAnon just go to python and click examples, the first one is flask :)

5

Hi guys! I've been coding on Repl.it for about as long as I've been doing Python3. I'm trying to make an RPG with a turn based system, stats, custom movesets and such. I'm gonna put TONS of secrets because I've been playing a lot of Breath of the Wild lately. Anyways I love using Repl and the people are very nice. I'm definitely gonna need help with graphics (anything visual outside of text because I'm not artist and also because any online tutorial I copy doesn't do jack). If anyone is good with that and willing to help then that would be great but I'm barely anywhere yet in development so it won't be for awhile until I need this. Nice to be here with the Repl community! :D

2

@bowserx19 This sounds really cool. You should join us in the discord server to talk about it: https://discord.gg/QWFfGhy

3

@bowserx19 OwO you're so cool! I wish I had that much XP! Thanks for the support budz.

6

Hi!

I'm Owen, and although I'm not new to repl.it I'm very new to the forum part - and I've been very active recently, I love it! I program in Python 3, and (not to blow my own trumpet) I think I'm pretty good. I use repl.it so I can code on my chromebook, and now for this awesome community!
I really hope to become well-known and liked here!

  • Owen
2

@OwenBradstreet Welcome! I've already seen awesome stuff from you and I look forward to more 🙌

5

Hi, My name Ivan, I am from Ukraine and i am really wanna become best programmer (or closest 2 this as i can get), i am using repl it just because my notebook are broken a bit, and i cant use MVS or smthng.. so, hope i can make some friends over there, and take some fun.
P.S. my eng not the greatest, so don't hate me or something. I am trying.

4

@badward You can just make friends in threads like this one :P

I mean maybe we can be friends, so you can change the sad profile pic to a happy one

4

@badward we're building this to be a welcoming community, programmers at all levels, so welcome and hope we all grow together 🙌

2

@UndertaleRulez i can't be happy when my pc are kinda dead.. u know

1

@badward.... oh ( i really don't know what to say to that but maybe you can try to get it fixed? )

5

Hi guys, I'm Tim and I work at Repl.it - I like programming, teaching, and learning. Big fan of Javascript and Python, so feel free to ask any questions! In my personal life, I like playing poker, videogames, and biking.

1

@timmy_i_chen I'm a fan of Python too :) What videogames do you play?

1

@Babbel Haven't had much time lately, but Dota 2 is always a good time (especially with @masfrost - but some recent games I've enjoyed were Getting Over It and Kingdoms and Castles. I play minecraft on a private server with friends every other new patch or so. Do you play games? If yes, which one(s)?

1

@timmy_i_chen i play warthunder, battlefield, skyrim, oblivion, fallout, minecraft and occasionally some other games

1

@Babbel Nice! Did you see bethesda's E3? Thoughts on multiplayer fallout? :P

1

@timmy_i_chen i saw only parts of the show because it was late in the night here in switzerland. I'm not happy with the idea of a multiplayer only fallout

1

@timmy_i_chen Hi Timmy, what is the name of light theme that repl uses?

5

Hello world, I am HappyFakeBoulder
I hate everything, including coding, but that is one of the things i hate less than many other things.
At the time of my writing this, I mainly code in Python 3, Java, binary/assembly for some of my made-up CPUs, and HTML (although some would consider that last one to not be real coding), but that might change by the time you read this.

1

@jackslack0 WTH is this "hi waify" thing about?!

1

@HappyFakeboulde PYTHON & ASSEMBLY? MORE LIKE HEAVEN AND HELL!

1

@liltaco The assembly is for CPUs that I designed myself, so it's not so terrible.
Otherwise, yes.

1

@HappyFakeboulde Moopy said that your were his waifu, thats where the waifi thing came from

1

@HappyFakeboulde just delete your comment then re-upload or re-type it

3

Hello, I'm Alex, a HS student in America who just got into coding as a hobby. All I've done so far is mess around in python, but I hope to improve. I look forward to seeing what I and others can do here in Repl.
Nice to meet everyone!

1

@Four_Of_Clubs nice to meet you! Good work on hangman

1

@Four_Of_Clubs hi do you mean by HS as in homeschool?

2

@gabbyneve No, as in High School, sorry for the confusion. :)

4

Hi, I'm Luc!
I program in Javascript, Java, HTML & CSS frequently (I almost use repl.it every day for javascript), and I also know C++ and Lua. I enjoy programming games and attempting to solve puzzles with code. Absolutely love repl.it! :)

2

@LucHutton you seem to know quite a bit about coding. Pretty impressive :)

3

Hi, I am a smart kid who knows python, html, and css. I also am working a science fiction book, while showing magic tricks to friends. I like to read a lot - especially sci-fi and fantasy books. I also am good with legos, and I work with robots. I can speak some japanese, and good at origami. I also am good with soccer, while I can shoot archery. I am president of a 4-h club. I am a 11 year old in sixth grade.

1

@ByronShipman wow this is really cool! Welcom

1

I also can sing really good.

1

I also found a talent for drawing

4

Hello everyone!

My name is Rosana and I'm a college sophomore studying Information Technology. I first used repl.it at a 2 hour seminar in Miami, FL about Ruby. Since then I hadn't been back, but recently I rediscovered it browsing on Google. I've been programming in HTML/CSS and Python for a few years now, but I want to get into Ruby and I figured that this is a good platform to explore it on. I'm looking forward to creating and discovering on this site, as well as meeting other creators!

1

@Rosanasincere Hey Rosana! We're glad you're back, we've added a lot of fun features since.

4

Hello, i'm Nathan R (Mosrod), and I like coding Python, hanging out on Discord, and doing random things on my computer. I love using repl.it, and it is very efficient to work on code from the cloud!

2

@Mosrod Hello Nathan, good to see you here 👋

1

hi Nate or would you like me to call you @Mosrod? anyways welcome to the thread

1

@UndertaleRulez I would prefer you to call me @Mosrod on the threads since I can easily get notified.

4

Hi i'm Josh and i'm new to repl.it but I have made some progress on this website by making two short but fun games and one game that is in the process of being made. I program on python3 and I hope that I can be well-liked for my games

2

@JOSHUAKONDUR Python is not a good programming language for games though. If you wanna go more serious with games, you should pick a game framework or engine and work with its language. I use XNA and C#.

1

@UndertaleRulez OMG your profile pic is so cute 🤗

1

Thx @hayaodeh just search up Ink!sans gifs and you'll find it

4

console.log("Hello World!");
I'm Caleb, a Java (Kotlin), HTML5 and Node.js lover. I mainly make games with HTML5 (and sometimes Node.js for multiplayer).

How I got into programming

I was interested in Scratch (eewww) when I learnt it in school, and I wanted to learn more about programming. I started with HTML5 (JavaScript) on https://sololearn.com and I found that it's cool to make interactive webpages. I made my own website http://suck.cf. When I got into Java, I briefly learned how to make JavaFX apps and Android apps.

How I got into repl.it

When I started to try Python (now I don't use it LOL), I googled Python online IDE and repl.it showed on the top. I tried it and it's really good. I started to explore more about repl.it and discovered I Built This. Then I started to post my projects there, and joined their Discord server.

1

hiiiiiiiiii @caleblol cool profile pic, did you use a gif for it? i really want to know so i can try it myself

1

@UndertaleRulez yeh you can upload a gif, I like gif's in profile pictures

1

@caleblol I started with Sololearn too, but I overgrew it.

1

@caleblol "I googled Python online IDE and repl.it showed on the top" same here ^^

4

I'm 426, and I love to use Repl.it! I have been coding in Python for ~3 years, and have more than 100 REPLs. I have made a level maker and player, file hosting services, and chatrooms with Node.js. I am learning C++ with Repl.it! Without Repl.it I would probably just be playing video games instead of making awesome things, so thank you, Repl.it.

2

@426729 I love your game and how you're building it!

You should add a profile pic 😉

1

@426729 Seconding the profile pic request! Your work is awesome and it's about to get a lot more traffic - adding a profile picture adds an image to go with the name :)

1

@426729 yes! upload a profile picture, or a gif :)

3

also i use ruby

@iconick you're a disgrace to the true LEO's of this world

1

@hopebrooke blocked and reported :///

1

@iconick They've been banned. Thanks for reporting.

1

@timmy_i_chen It's so good to see the justice system in action :)

3

Hi I'm MonsterMike. I'm from Ohio, United States

5

@StudentMichael1 Hey Monster Mike! Rad nickname! fist bump . Why did you pick the name MonsterMike?

3

Hi everyone! I'm majoring in Computer Science. Currently, I am learning C++!

2

@GatorGirl hey there--welcome 🙂

2

@GatorGirl Cool! C++ is a pretty good language to learn if you want to make games!

3

Hello! I started learning programming about 3 months ago and it has been the best decision I've made. Now I find my self learning ReactJS, NextJS, and a bunch of other awesome libraries and Repl.it is the best way to share what I learn and ask question with (share demos, etc.). Nice to meet ya!

3

Hi, I write small Python programs here, mainly to answer questions on stackoverflow and related sites.

Maybe someone can tell me if it is possible to add command line arguments to a Python program here at repl.it.

1

@miracle173 Not yet, but will be possible soon.

3

Hello, I would rather not say my name, but I have always wanted to be known as the world's youngest coder. I have been coding for 2 years since I was 10 and I have loved it. The first time I coded something was for a school assignment. My friend @gantr833 introduced coding to me.

1

@fullern000 That's a great ambition! I coded the first time when I was 6 years using Logo which is a turtle environment. But unfortunately, there was no Repl.it so I couldn't find a real programming environment until I was 12 years old when I installed Visual Basic on my computer.

3

@amasad I guess I can't be the youngest then...

3

I am a 15 year old who has been programming since 5th grade and loves it. I know over 10 different programming languages like HTML/CSS/JS/jQuery, Ruby, Python (ugh), Perl 6, Scala, TI-Basic (taught myself), C++, etc. I have been working on my own programming language called Talk (not related to SmallTalk), which is based on AppleScript and written in Perl 6. I am also kinda obsessed with a game called Geometry Dash (which is cool). Sometimes when I'm bored, I'll decide learn a new language (just learned Pascal). I'm looking for a way to use either Ruby or Perl 6 as normal scripting languages in websites. I hate Python.

1

I also use crappy devices like a 2007 MacBook and an iPhone 5

2

@theangryepicbanana Welcome! Would love to check out Talk at some point. Is it on Repl.it? I think some people are working on programming languages too here.

1

@amasad Since Replit does not yet support Perl 6 (the language it's written in), I have been making it on glot.io (link below). I'm glad that you are interested in it though! Link: https://glot.io/snippets/f0l05x87qs

It's not finished yet, but I guess it works for now

2

@theangryepicbanana Same I really really hate Python

1

@caleblol yeah, and it's not just because it's super popular and overused. It's because it is missing features that nearly every other language has like a case/switch statement, anonymous functions (lambdas don't count), dynamic function/variable calling, method overloading, etc. It's SO overrated.

1

@caleblol and @theangryepicbanana have you tried python3 or python with turtle?

1

@UndertaleRulez first of all, if I have to use Python, I'm using Python 2. Second of all, turtle sucks. And lastly, yes I know both of them.

1

@theangryepicbanana Yes, Python lacks a few features that a lot of programming languages have. But it also has a lot of features a lot of programming languages lack. One simple task in Python could be 10 different tasks in, say, PHP. Also, Python is super high level to work with, but you can do some very low level things, like create a server based just on sockets. I do agree that it's overused, though. I'd much prefer creating a server with Node.js.

1

@Lumpy_Wiggles A simple task in any language takes 10x more work to do in PHP. As for what I was saying:
#Python:
for i in range(0, 10):
print i
#Perl 6:
.say for ^10

1

Oh, for anyone who was wondering, here are my GD stats:

2

@theangryepicbanana Cool :) I have (I think) 600 diamonds, 100 stars, 9 secret coins, 15 user coins, and, um, 0 completed demon levels. Pretty sad.

1

@GildieEverblaze that's pretty good tbh. The demons I've completed are: Platinum Adventure, Laser Room (favorite), and The Lightning Road. Working on Proximity (by Lemons), yStep, and Lights and Thunder.

2

@theangryepicbanana DAAAAAAAMN DANIEL!!!! U have so much stuff!

1

@UndertaleRulez yeah, I've been playing for about a year and a half now. Btw I have 100 of each shard.

2
3

hi im from vietnam my name is fornite master bye dont know anything to say

2

@fortnitemaster What are your thoughts on PUBG? ;)

1

Hello @fortnitemaster i have one suggestion, add a profile picture

1
1

@fortnitemaster hello there! nice to have you on Repl.it! how long have you been coding for?

2

Hi there! I'm a computer science teacher in Louisville, KY. We have a four-year academy, and our core language is Python.

1

@QuincyTennyson welcome!!

If any cool projects comes out of your class please share them here on the forum :)

2

Hi All,

My name is Conor and I really don't know where to start. Any ideas?

2

Hello everybody ,I am here to learn how to become a millionaire , if you have great ideas please share them and hopefully once I become a millionaire I will buy you a coffe in a diamond cup with golden spoon served by a model from Japan

1

@mbakzaza it's a good place to try to become a millionaire -- build an app and release it!

2

Hi everyone!

My name is Cate and I've been working in IT Sourcing for about a year. I went to a conference recently and saw a presentation on coding and decided I wanted to learn how. I am a total noob but I pick things up fairly quickly and I am really enjoying everything I'm learning so far. Any tips on where to start, good resources, or different YouTube channels to follow would be much appreciated!

A little about me... I am a mom to 3 kids under 6 (crazy, huh!), I love building robots, playing MMOs, beta testing new MMOs, and playing disc golf.

Glad I found Repl.it!

1

@catejenn oh wow, that's awesome you're doing all of this -- pretty cool mom!

I would ask the question for resources on Ask and I'm sure you'll get good replies.

2

I am currently a ninth grader (Freshman) at my highschool. I have been self teaching myself most of the languages I know. I first started out with java I think in June of 2015 because of the popular game of Minecraft and it's unoffical modding api Forge. Going from there I started many projects many lost to deletion, and others still going, but now I'm mostly into python trying to create a script/language. I absoulutely love how repl has change over the year and a half of using it, and I can't wait for what the next year holds for it. The Repl Talk is nice for answering others questions as soon as there posted.

2

@XavierDD Really cool having you around Xavier! You're doing great work.

2

Hi I'm a noob at coding xDDDDDDDDDD

2

I took an AP Computer Science class and we only learned java so I only use java. I suck at coding but I enjoy it so whatup

1

@bigdave01 whatup--everyone sucks at coding!

2

Im a blender user, blender is veritably the best software ever created. Using repl.it for its insanely good web editor, and any of my future legal projects

2

Hello I’m Octavio.

I went to TheCoderSchool SF ( https://www.thecoderschool.com/sanfrancisco ) and basically coder boring basic stuff in Python3, Python, and Python3/Python w/ Turtle. If you want to contact me, please do it via Discord ( discordapp.com (Username: 1Tavi2016_ALT2#9266 ))

2

Hi guys, I'm Samay (https://shamdasani.org) - a student developer based in the NYC area. Looking forward to interacting with the repl.it community!

2

hi everyone. My name is Stixy from Dublin, Ireland. I have just joined you all in this coding journey, pretty much a novice. I hope to learn more from you and enjoy it.

1

@312B Welcome! You should totally set your profile picture under https://repl.it/account :)

2

hoi I've already posted here about myself but i need an opinion on something. i want to change my profile pic but i don't know which one to choose, this one

or this one

please help me pick!

1

@UndertaleRulez I like #2! #1 is a little blurry

1

@UndertaleRulez Another undertale fan!!!!

2

I use repl.it for competitive programming so I hope it doesn't go out during a contest.

1

@programmer444 same here, tho my friends tell me to use codeblocks

2

Hi, I'm Amelia, a 16 year old girl from England. I really like coding games in python, check out my fishing game I just made! I want to be the best coder I can so I'm open to constructive criticism. One day I want to learn a new language. If anyone has any ideas for what I should make next, tell me!

1

@AmeliaBlackwell Maybe your next game should have a web interface? That'd be awesome.

1

@AmeliaBlackwell i just played your game and i love it! It's honestly the best game i've ever played on repl.it! And i like the code, because it's object-oriented (i've seen code with tons of redundancies on repl.it). The game reminds me a bit of a mobile game called "a girl adrift". Do you know this game?

1

@Babbel wow you really think so?? thank you so much! yes i do love using objects, it makes more sense to my brain. i have not heard of "a girl adrift" but i will check it out!

1

@amasad that would be cool! i have no idea how to do that but i will look into it, thank you!

2

Hello everyone, my name is Haya and I'm the designer in Repl.it, I'm trying to learn Programming on Repl.it with @timmy_i_chen, I'll share my programs when I have something ready 😁

1

@hayaodeh I remember you. Perhaps you even remember me. I think I was on repl in the early days (I don't know when repl started exactly). Anyway, hi!

2

hey!
you can call me Lelouch, although my name is Vishal.
i am a student of computer science, B.Tech.
it's been two months since the day i started learning HTML.
As of now i know HTML,CSS for the most part and bit of C, python, javascript and php.
as a whole i am too noob to be called a programmer.
it's my first day here, but i loved repl as soon as saw it for the first time, i am hoping to have a great time here.

2

@VishalChoudhary hello there and welcome! I'm a newbie too! so don't worry, all we're here to learn from each other and make friends \o/ how did you ended up on Repl.it?

2

@hayaodeh I'm a newbie too! so don't worry????

2

Hi @amasad. I like writing code samples. I use github a lot but I love to write quick examples on rep.it. It's very convenient to not have to fire up an IDE or a command line. I also do a lot of tutoring and rep allows me to do that and share the code almost live.

1

@fernandozamoraj Hey Fernando! Welcome. I hope you check out the new features that allows you to build and deploy web services and apps.

1

@fernandozamoraj hello Fernando, where do you do the tutoring? is it in school? university?

2

Hi, there.
Well, my name is Tiago and have been using the repl for several years since this was beta. I am a big fan of compilers and functional programming. For know my projects you can access my repl or my Github. I love repl.it :)

1

@caotic hi Tiago 👋

I'm also a fan of those things. In fact, part of what motivated me to work on Repl.it is because I was trying to learn more about programming languages and compilers. Initialy, we wrote somenof tue compilers here by hand but that process couldn't scale 😅

1

@caotic we love that you've been using Repl.it for several years. we're very excited about this community because it'll allow us to meet cool people like you!

2

I'm Batman flies away on grappling hook

I am trying to cultivate my programming skill by solving algorithm problems and want to learn and implement ai so i'm trying to learn machine learning first. nice to meet y'all and if someone wants to help me with my scrambled codes(nickname is same with my github account) and some advice about programming, i will appreciate it. Thank you guys in advance!

1

Hello, I'm a relatively new programmer and I absolutely love to program. I use Lua to program everything I do so yeah.

1

Hi my name is nicolas

1

Halry the dice here. I taught myself HTMl and python off of websites including https://www.w3schools.com/ and https://www.guru99.com/ and now I am working on a python program for a science fair (due friday). Come check it out and give me some pointers @HenryCurtis1

1

I am a total FanWing, LOVE DRAGONVALE, am not so good at real coding but love Scratch (if anyone does Scratch pls follow me or check my studios my name is onyxcode) I don't go to school but like the satasfaction of saying I do on my profile bc homescoolers are "DUMB" and "NERDY" and "WEIRD". So ya that is pretty much me :D :D :D

1

Hi im making a dice game for 2 people and ive got stuck it needs to have 5 rounds and add the score to an external file. if they roll a double they get an extra roll and if the score is the same at the end they go to sudden death
can anyone help?

1

hey its julia and i just really like bats

1

So I started coding in Middle School. I mainly use Python, but I know some JavaScript + HTML and some C# as well. Feel free to check out my programs!

1

I guess this is Reddit for smart people which is semi - serious ; I'm just such a bad coder and If you recommend me great tutorials to start up my coding Python 3.0. (I'm just a novice coder so, please introduce me to this genius community.)

1

Hi! I’m olafh10 or just known by my real name Olaf. I discovered repl.it about 2/3 jears ago and have been using it ever since! The main reason I use repl.it is so I can program during the breaks between my lessons. 😜

I live in the Netherlands and I have been programming since I was 7. I mostly program in Java nowadays, but in the past I programmed alot of HTML and Python. But the very first language I programmed in was Livecode. The simplest programming language on the planet 😅👏

Here’s a list of all the languages I know, if you care:
Java
Javascript (Not node.js, just plain old browser JS)
HTML
PHP
Python
SQL
Livecode
Gameboy binary (Does that count?)

Well, you’ll probably always find me somewhere on the forums, so just say hi if you know me 😂

To wrap this up, I want to give all my ❤️ to the guys (and girls) at repl.it. It is great to be able to program anywhere, no matter where you are. Thank you for doing this and making programming more accessible for everyone. Love your work

1

UGH.

INSUFFERABLE.

MY NAME IS ADONIS. I'M SIX SWEEPS OLD AND THAT'S ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW.

Hello everyone. I'm Fiona, and working in a startup company. I'm learning Angular everyday that I wanna be a front-end developer. Hope can build a good platform one day. :D

Hi, I'm Elea, a french girl who starts learning coding with the classroom system, but I think I'll continue to code here because it's really intuitive. GIRLS CAN CODE!!!!! B-)

Hi everyone! Im Mike nickname(B0T). Im a student and i like to programming and making music. I started to walk into the programming way from 2016 and also my favorite programming language is Python
Ok bye!

1

Guess it's my turn for the intro,

I'm Fhillis, and I write mostly in Javascript (be it backend or frontend)

Most of the things I build are for me and my friends, as we get bored easily and are always looking for things to do.

I think I'm pretty chill, if you want to goof off, I'll goof, you want someone to talk to, I'm usually down. I do like getting to know all sorts of people so that would be interesting.

EDIT
Guess I should mention I'm a senior in High School and everything I know is self-taught

1

Hi, I'm Mena here from Malaysia. I'm here to learn Python. I'm still a beginner .
Hopefully , I will learn it better.

1

Hello friend, how are you doing on this fine morning i wish to introduce my self my name is joe goodbye

1

Hello!
I'm a beginner and a bit naive to programming, but I love to code and hope to learn it better. I started learning how to self-code on Kahn Academy but isn't helping at all. I'm a visual person, hope repl>it will help me out. I was directed to this site by the founder of CleverProgrammer.com, a coding class that I just join, October 9, 2018.
Python is my first programming language I'm learning, hope to move to another asap. With time and constant practice, I can get better.

1

Hi all, self-taught here, working with C/C++/JS/Elixir/Python languages, currently 95% interested in full stack web development. node.js and react lover, but cheating on them many times with Elixir and Phoenix.

1

I took interest in coding a few years ago and learned some things on my own, but dropped out and most of my self-taught knowledge is gone. What are some recommended sites I could learn from to get into coding again?

2

@Verklighet If you're interested, codecademy taught me the basics of python.

1

Hello, I am a student who is self tough and also eager to learn more! I have an untold future, so I do not you my projects I have in the upcoming weeks, months, or years... (This will change with my ideas in the near future.)

1

html, js, css, lua, and python are languages i vaguely know

1

I'm some dude who loves coding, and has been doing it since age 8. I am currently learning c++ which I find fun. My username is so weird. Also I have the worst spelling in the world. That is a must know. I don't talk much, so... that is it I guess.

1

Hi , myself Amit ...I am new to coding and i think to use repl.it in the process of learning.

Hello, I'm Juliet. I fancy coding and I want to be very good at it. I'm excited and I'm hoping this platform will be very useful for my growth.

1

I really hope someone can help me with my issue. It's about how an old website with outdated code from my new one exists and it's causing security issues as people can see into a staff chat I do not wish for them to see. :/

1

Assalamualaikum and hi! I'm Addlyn, 14, from Malaysia and am learning Python in my school. Do give some advice on anything about Python language. Looking forward to be a billionaire.

1

I am Chandler (named from Friends), and I love to program. I am learning C++, and have made a few programs. I started with HTML and CSS when I was just nine years old. It taught me basic syntax and structure. I love Linux computers and learning new things in the terminal. VIM and Emacs for the win!

2

@ChandlerMorell welcome!! Been enjoying your posts.

And btw we're coming out with a new terminal so you'll be able to use vim and emacs on repl.it!!

1

@amasad Thank you! I am really enjoying this website! I am super excited to see what you all come up with for the terminal! I love VIM, and to see that implemented would be amazing! This forum is quite nice, and I am trying to earn more cycles! StackOverFlow is a little too mean for me... haha. So, I am choosing this forum to become reputable!

1

@ChandlerMorell awesome!!

yes we are modeling it to be the exact opposite of Stackoverflow (I call them stackholes ;)

2

@amasad I am so very glad, and I cannot wait to see what the future of this forum holds. Thanks for the support, Stackholes! (maybe you got the reference) :))

Hi I'm Hy, looking to get a minor in cs. Love using your product. I would reckon a lot of my friends would love using repl.it too if they can easily share code.

Anyways, yes repl.it has made my life a lot better. The output screen is very nice. When im doing data work involving tables I can see a lot more of the output on screen which helps with understanding the output better. Thanks replit!

1

@hydangnguyen97 that's really awesome and nice to hear!

1

Hello all,
I signed up for repl.it a while ago but have not used it. I am trying to fine tune my self-taught JavaScript skills . In the past I have toyed with Python, Java but can't seem to remember any of it. I seem to be struggling with JS because there is so little time and so much to learn: JS/HTML/CSS/Sass/bootstrap/React/D3js. Now I am starting to check out Node and Express to be followed by MongoDB and Mongoose. I have not mastered any of these things but have hacked my way through them. I really want to polish my JS skills particularly ES6 while improving on the others I have listed.

1

Hi guys! I'm Josef! I'm so happy I discovered Repl.it a couple of days ago because it helps me learn Python (and maybe something else in the future)!

1

@josefroy awesome! How did you find Repl.it?

Hi I'm Oscar and Computer Science Student at PGS

1

Hi everyone! I have ventured into the world of programming and honestly am struggling getting started. I've read well into a book and have copied the code using python and everything makes sense; as I'm copying it and reading it that is. When I try to do a simple assignment on my own, my mind draws a blank! I just graduated from a 2 year college in IT so I have some basics. I really want to get a good grasp on this programming! I've only been at it for a couple weeks but I do feel I should progress a little more progressively.
Someone give me some tips, hints, tricks, or simply some motivation and encouragement
for this! Thanks everyone!
Jim

Hi. I am a kid. I like to code but sometimes I feel inferior. I like constructive criticism when I am working on a project. I started out with design (HTML/CSS) and I lacked any back end skills and javascript skills. Now I am learning python.

1

@JoelDesante you'll find that this community is very welcoming. And there are a lots of kids here :)

Hello everyone at Repl.it. My name is Osagie Guobadia. And I was using repl.it for about a decade since my Computer science professor (Dr. Rose Zavala) show me this website from Medgar Evers College Academic Complex One building. And now today, I am now attending Computing for this year's fall semester. I was wondering how most of you people do algorithms on playing sudoku on Repl.it.

Thanks, from Osagie Guobadia.

1

Hello. I am a student at MC. First time using repl.it

1

Hello everyone, I am an IT student at the University of Phoenix. I previously completed a course in HTML/CSS/JS and am currently in a Java course. I was told about this website by another student in my class. I like this because I can work on coding regardless of where I am. Thank you for providing this service online.

1

Hi, I'm a nobody
jk lol
My name is Aaron and I'm a 13 year old boy who lives in Canada. I've been programming since I was 9 or 10 years old. I don't usually program games or useful things like most people use repl.it for. Instead, I program on repl.it to try and get to IOI (International Olympiads of Informatics or something like that). Though within my three years of coding, I still haven't gotten past the preliminary round :( but I keep trying! I only know C++, python, and a tiny bit of HTML. But my main language is still C++ (C++ 4 life XD). Here's a link to my dmoj.ca profile: https://dmoj.ca/user/tankibuds and here's my account for wcipeg.com: https://wcipeg.com/user/tankibuds
Note: I'm also a strict voter, which means I only vote things that I really like or think are creative. Basically if I have voted you, you have my respect.

2

@tanglx4310 oh nice! I used to compete in ACM and IEEE. I love that stuff. Good luck!

1

@amasad Thanks! I really appreciate it.

1

hi i would like to know each other

1

@MohamedSaid hey, maybe start by telling us a bit yourself :)

1

I am Lukas. I started coding when i was 8. It was with the command prompt. I would color the terminal and stuff.
Nowadays i stick to Python, C++, HTML/CSS/(sometimes)JS, and java. I work alongside Elias with our shared handle @replitcode
we both love to code and while he is taught by other means i am self-taught.
Well, G'Day y'all and see you on the flipside!

1

I started Repl.it today and is really fun! I thought this was too hard a few years back but now I think I can get used to it!

1

@_RealUnderscor that's awesome! I think we've improved it and you've improved too so we met in the middle :)

1

hey guys lets play league of legends its more fun than fortnite and pubg

Hello everyone! I wanna be a professional programmer, but more I learn more I feel how stupid I am. Is that funny?

2

@kakioexe even the best programmer feels like this. If you don't feel stupid every day then you're not learning anything new. Get comfortable with the feeling.

1

Hello Everyone. I'm new here.

1

Hi Guys, I'm Darren. I am learning Python and I'm very interested in Machine Learning, Deep Learning and algos. I have seen some awesome examples of these.
I work in healthcare and I work in the clinical lab. I was amazed to see a Deep Learning project from a company called Althelas.
They are able to count the white blood cells and give a very accurate count of the cells and the percentages. This is called a Complete Blood Count (CBC).
We currently do these with lasers and flow cells on machines costing about $100,000 or so.
So this is just one example.

I'd like to start my own "company" or at least interest group. I have lots of ideas.
If you are a good programmer or also have ideas on the subject, we can talk.

@darrenchess really awesome and ambitious!

1

I am Alex and I use repl.it for my 8th grade coding class

1

@jonalex05 My school doesn't provide a coding class. It would be nice if the school provided a coding class.

1

Hey! I'm Omni and I have some moderate experience in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as basic-and-building experience in Python.
In the past, I've made a JS/socketIO-based game that I had to abort at about 80-90% because I simply lacked the knowledge and experience to finish it. Hopefully one day I'll revisit it when I do have what I need or maybe I'll bump into someone here who would love to see it completed as well.
Until then, I'm going to slowly but steadily work on a text-based Python game that I made the foundations for during the single-player game competition. It's much more realistic in terms of scale, and I feel like I can make a good playable base game with ample opportunity to expand on it afterwards. I hope to share it with you all in the future!
You'll likely find me on Discord, either reading through anything that might interest me or sometimes asking a question to get me closer to that playable base game :)

1

Hi I'm Chris! I am teaching a Programming/Robotics class this year at Innovation Academy Charter School in Tyngsboro, MA. I have been looking for a tool like this for a while and I am psyched that I stumbled upon it! I hope to make a repl.it classroom and use it to organize class assignments.

1

Hello I'm Andrew!

I'm a recent grad from college, but decided to go a web dev boot camp called Thinkful to change careers. I'll be doing their full stack flex program for the next 6 months (hopefully faster), and I look forward to interacting with the community here. Seems like an awesome place to learn :)

1

@Sang_JoonJoon awesome! Looking forward to seeing what you build :)

1

Hey all! I'm new to Repl.it and i'm using it mainly as a method for my AP Computer Science A students to upload their coding lab assignments. So far I've enjoyed the feedback capability, and the quick cycling through different students' assignments.

It might also serve as their emergency backup coding capability (we're using a basic IDE installed in the lab and on their laptops).

1

@bsimps3 awesome! Yes, check out the IDE, it's amazing how much people of all ages can do with it (filter this forum by upvotes to see some awesome creations).

1

HI I don't know anything about coding, hopefully this website can guide me to understanding this stuff

1

I'm more than happy to share my story. It's the first time that I come to here and I will learn to the code.

1

Hello, my name is Nate. I started programming around my freshman year of highschool (I'm currently a senior). During that freshman year I started learning python which I enjoyed. Then I just sortta got bored of it and dropped it for a while. Tried teaching myself Java my Sophomore year but got dropped too. My Junior year I took a year class of Web Design and got really into it. I made several sites, I might add them to replit sometime. During the summer from junior year to senior year I taught myself bootstrap and it was a blast. WIth bootstrap I made https://nsedler.github.io/ . Now that my senior year has started I got put into AP Computer Science where we are learning Java. I hope to stick with it this time and eventually learn many more languages! Thank you for reading.

1

Hi, I'm Kaldis.
Most people know me for my multiplayer game that was featured in the first ever newsletter. It was (and somewhat is) very buggy and crashed quite a bit (sorry for that). I code mainly in Javascript and HTML/CSS. I used to know some python as well but it seemed boring and useless at the time so I quit using it and I switched to Js. I love repl.it and its community of helpful people that are willing to take the time out of their day to help. Thanks guys.

1

@kaldisberzins Thanks Kaldis -- love your stuff!

Hello everyone, my name George Jenkins. I am thirty-four years old, and this will be my first semester at Virginia Western. I am father to four children and have been happily married for thirteen years. After graduating high school, I joined the Army and spent nine years on active duty. After leaving the military, I started working for a small publishing company and coaching High school wrestling. Currently, I am pursuing my A.A.S in Network and Security Administration in hopes that it will help me bridge the gap from Tactical Communications to Networking and Security. It's great to meet you all, and I look forward to getting to know you this semester.

1

@Jenkins83 that's a very interesting background. We have other vets here from VetsWhoCode @JeromeHardaway

I wish you success in this journey.

Hi every one im new and need help plz help

1

Hi! I'm Adelina and I'm new to repl.it. I've been interested in coding for quite a while and I took a Python 3 coding camp (if you wanna know the website here it is: https://method.kz/almaty) in July and graduated. I look forward to learning more Python and might even take that coding camp again. I hope to become a programmer as my job (since I only have 9 more years till college) and I will continue learning. :D

1

@SkyRaaf welcome! It's awesome you're planning this far into the future :)

1

Hi, I'm Russ.

Is it possible to use Repl to run Python programs that already exist in a directory? How would I cd to that directory -- or alternatively, copy the directory to someplace that Repl can access?

Thanks.

P.S. I looked for a more appropriate place to ask this question, but I couldn't find one. Is there a better place?

1

@RussAbbott Hi! Not yet possible, though you can import that file (as a module) and run it from main.py. Right now every repl only has one entry point.

1

Hey!! i'm Jeremy im from L.a school I'm intrested in coding and am almost done with html/css and looking foward to start react native and java...
personally this website has really helped me alot have always wanted to be a programmer in the future

Hi everybody!I am KID.For your information,I am not a child.I am an adult

NICE TO MEET YOU ALL!!!! :)

1

Hello everyone, how are you all?
I'm Danton, nice to meet you all.
I'm a beginner in programming, I'm learning Python 3, and I use repl.it to study when I'm away from home
Thank you all for your attention, and if you want to take a look at my projects and give me ideas, feel free to do so, I'm Brazilian, so my programs are in Portuguese :)

I am someone who is said to life in the US, but no one has confirmed that. I also have a couple of dogs.

1

Hi, I am Basant. I am a frontend/full-stack developer. In my skills bag I have, HTML, CSS, javascript and a few Javascript frameworks, React and VueJS. I have also tinkered a bit with nodejs. And also I am into PHP.

1

@besrabasant Woo, welcome, and thanks for the introduction! :)

1

@timmy_i_chen it's a pleasure and thank you.

1

Hi, I'm Ibraheem,

I've been programming for around 5/6 years now, and found out about repl.it around a year ago in school, as we used it when our local IDEs wouldn't work (school IT sucks). I've not used it for a while, but since recently coming back to it I've been amazed by the amount of languages it supports and how well the IDE functions. Also really love the live server deployment features. I'm hoping to use this a lot for the coding club I'll be running in school next year.

Probably going to continue to use repl.it as a place to quickly test things, I prefer to work on large projects on my local machine. Also looking forward to the multiplayer games competition and Code Jams - although sadly I'm away for the upcoming one :(

A bunch of my work is on my github: www.github.com/ibraheemr
Also it'd be cool if you'd check out my website: www.ibraheemrodrigues.com (front page under construction, click through to posts or projects)

1

@IbraheemRodrigues It's okay, we'll do other code jams! Are you part of the Discord server already?

1

Hi everyone! I'm Hanif

I began learning programming (HTML, CSS , JS and Pyhton 3) sometime in November 2016. My intention was to learn programming enough to make games, but I got wowed by what I saw on the internet about the power of these languages and didnt give game dev much focus. (Actually tried getting a fullstack software dev job, but didnt get picked). I found repl.it last year when I was seeking an online platform like Dev Tools, and it's been pretty amazing how much it has grown in the past year!
Thanks Amjad! I look forward to building amazing apps with this! :)

1

HI i am agnes! How are you?

1

Hi! I code in python pretty well. I haven't done Html/css/javascript in a while but I used to do those. I'm learning Java for speed! ;)

1

@Darklordx hello 👋 why do you need to learn Java for speed?

2

@amasad Well, I can use cython to accelerate my python code with static typing but from what I've read java's JIT compiler, bytecode system, and platform-specific JVM all contribute to further optimizations.
The syntax gets annoying after a while though... after years of python semicolons hit you over the head pretty hard.

1

'Allo! I'm [R3DACT3D] and I'm mostly using Repl.it as a scratchpad for my programs since my school despises it when I install any software.

1

@EPiC_Inc welcome!! Hope you use it for more soon. Check out our competition maybe you can build something and win something!

1

Hey Folks,

I'm Myles. I used to be an instructor then the CTO of Dev Bootcamp. Then I co-founded the Bradfield School of Computer Science, where I met Amjad. I'm helping the folks out here with a little bit of development while I relocate from SF to Denver Colorado.

I love to talk languages, operating systems, and software education in general.

I am Michiel, I am a computer skills teacher on Aruba. I use repl for my classes at school, and for my online courses at gameskool.org where I teach people programming to become game developers/designers.

I have experience in a bunch of languages, mostly C, PHP, JavaScript, BASIC, some Java, assembler, python. Lately I have taken an interest in learning a bit about neural networks.

For the rest, I am into movies, books, writing, speedcubing, running, and martial arts.

1

Programmer and Developer. I write mainly in python. I am learning C# and can do a bit of HTML. I am currently using repl.it for making discord bots. I live in the UK and enjoy coding. I work with one of my mates on most of my projects. I am active on the repl.it discord.

1

Hi! I am Safwan. I am a beginner. Learning python in Codecademy

1

Hey,
I love coding, pretty much a beginner. personally i like python. I'd like to say I'm pretty creative with my ideas so if you'd like to help me learn more I'd love that.

1

Hello guys, I'm Mary from Brazil. I'm 25 years old, I just got my degree in Computer Science, during college I learned C, Flex, Bison, Java, Ionic, Typescript, Assembly (the basics) and SQL.
Since I'm a linux enthusiast I always try to learn things by myself, so I learned bash script, python3, R language, LateX...I loveeeeeee Regex!! I also learned english by myself so I'm sorry for any mistake haha.
I found repl.it trying to compile C code (because I don't know how to use Windows anymore, so I don't even know what software use to execute code there) and since then I'm in love with it.
Anyway, I hope we can be friends and that I learn a lot from you.

1

@MARIELLYTAMIRES Hi Mary, welcome! You might be the only one here who loves regex :( I die a bit inside every time I have open up regexpal. Maybe you can turn us over to the light side - what do you love about regex?

1

@timmy_i_chen Yeah, I always see people saying "If you have a problem and you can resolve with regex, then you have two problems." but I never saw regex as something hard to understand, I love finding paterns...Like, you can find paterns and use it in your favor, amazing isn't?
I even use sites to play with regex, check this http://alf.nu/RegexGolf
Anyways, I use regex when i'm programing in python and when I have to use in C, I use flex to parse.

2

@MARIELLYTAMIRES Oh man RegexGolf is great, thanks for sharing :)

I think the frustration around regex isn't so much the pattern matching - at least for me, it's the dissection of all the symbols and trying to understand how they work.

1

Hey my name is Will, born and raised in Brooklyn, they call me Wildabeast(bboying days) or just iamwill. Currently work FT as a frontend dev for vzw.com, on my spare time I build out things using javascript frameworks to better my vanilla javascript :)

Some of the projects I currently work on, https://bboy.space (react, redux, firebase), https://sw-blog.xyz (vue2js, redux, firebase), feel free to check out, feedback, they're all a working progress. My personal port: https://iamwill.us ( a few years old, but still gets me through the door :).

Gymnastics/acrobatics is in my blood, coding for me started in middle school, mainly flash, visual basics, and c++, then some machine learning in college but then feel off of it until 5 years ago when I rekindled my love for programming.

I love using repl.it, I use it to test functions and use it as a demo tool, especially es6 stuff, my most recent one is interesting if you're into creating class components, it's very similar to how all these reactive ui frameworks work.

Motto: caffeinate, eat, code, train, sleep, and repeat.

Cool, nice to meet you all!

-Will

2

@iamwill123 Also started with VB here! Sweet projects as well, thanks for sharing! :D love the little logo animation when hovering over the logo in the top left corner of sw-blog

1

@timmy_i_chen Thanks Tim! and yeah VB ! haha so classic

1

Hi i am "iamfuturecode" Kenyan
new to repl
very armature web developer i have a little knowledge in HTML/CSS/JS and some frameworks. I would really like to grow as a programmer more than a web developer. I hope to learn, make friends and interact with like minds i.e "you reading this.."

1

hello @iamFutureCode I'm new too, tbh i spend most off my time in the repl chat :P

0

hi im matt just trying to get my first repl up and running...seems to just have a bar going across.

1

@adrianhelms001 Must've been during the downtime we had with Google Cloud - is it working now?

(Also, Hi Matt!)

1

Hi! I'm GildieEverblaze :) I love programming - I use Scratch, HTML, CSS and a negligible amount of Javascript. I also love reading, and my favorite book series are Keeper of the Lost Cities and Lord of the Rings. When I'm bored, I am known to do some strange things, such as learning Elvish or trying to open 100 new tabs. Finally, I have a crazy, adorable little Cavapoo puppy named Scout. :D

1

@GildieEverblaze Puppy?? Unwritten rule of the internet, if you have a puppy, you must share adorable pics. Dog tax!

Also, where does one go to learn Elvish? O_o

1

i agree with @timmy_i_chen POST PICS OF UR PUPPYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!

1

@timmy_i_chen and @UndertaleRulez: Here's a picture of her :D

I could share about 5000 more of these, but they would probably crash this website with their adorableness ;)

1

DO IT !!!!!!!!! SHE IS SO CUTE IT WOULD BE WORTH IT!!!!!! @GildieEverblaze

1

Hello, I'm Jzero a developer with a love for building any type of software and a passion to learn more.

1

Hello fellow programmers!
I am Trevor, a sophomore in high school! I use repl.it for html, C, C++, and python projects as well as learning various programming languages! I introduced repl.it to my friend Mitchell in Computer Science and my teacher. They both use it now!

1

hi my name is Abel I am 16 years old I live in England I like programming as it is very fun to do I know Python, HTML, CSS trying to learn C++

1

anyone play LOL my username is The1ThatIsNoThe1

1

o/ Heyo everyone. Name's Tyler. I'm a (soon-to-be) sophomore, and I work w/ Python 2.7 + Java. I'm hoping to learn C# soon so I can work with the Unity engine (Preferably not on here. It looks like there might be some unity-specific stuff that I might have learn.) I originally found this site thru Google and primarily used it so I can run my program on the net. I decided to just publish all my work on here too (even though I already did that on my GitHub) and I put it up on ibt. Sadly this will probably be the only time I'm going to do this. My current work is on a rewrite of my program onto Java, w/ 2D graphics. Isn't supported on any site it seems, so I'll just stick to posting my code on github. I'll probably still work on my first program though. Wow, I just realized I've been typing this for too long. Looking forward to meeting you all. If you want my github, the username's GamingGuyTyler.

1

HI , I'm adeyemi an aspiring javascript full stack developer.. it's nice to be part of this community

1

hi everyone, I'm gustavo from chile. I'm 21 years old, I study IT. I knew about repl.it few time ago, I started using it just for teaching the freshman basic python (I get paid for that at my colelge) and then I started discovering all the amazing features that this website has, but still don't know how to use many. I really wanna get into the online and servers world, I only know the basic programming stuff algorithms, recurssion, data structures and I also made a game with pygame for a school projects. I know python, java, c++, assembly, and that'ts it. Even tho I would really like to know more, how to do online things, I don't really know how to do fun stuff here so if anyone could guide me on that I would love it!

1

sooo
My name is Tymoteusz. I'm a 13 year old boy from Poland. My programming story began, when one YouTuber uploaded 3 episodes of basic tutorial of BASIC V.2. I was then like 10 I think. The youTuber in the episode made adding an app (or something). The next few days when walking from school I had an idea of upgrading it to a functional calculator. When I was done the calculator was adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. Then I wanted to expand my "knowledge" of BASIC, but I didn't know how :/ So then I started learning C++, I was playing with it in Code::Blocks. I've done basic calculator which was doing simple calculations at the same time. Then I thought "Hey, why not make some games?", so I installed Unity and learning from official tutorials how to do something... I didn't learn anything... Long break... I checked out esoteric programming languages on Wikipedia, because why not. I found LOLCAT, I was trying to install it on my laptop. Didn't work. Then I found Repl.it. LOLCAT tutorials wasn't working here... So now I'm here, trying to learn HTML, CSS and JS.
I love being here :3
(pls help I don't know what website to make)

1

Hi, I'm Matthäus ! Nice to meet all of you !
Programming languages: HTML/CSS , Javascript, Php, Python, C++

1

hi my name is nick and my favorite coding language is python 3

1

Hiya guys. This is da bestie Adele!!!! :)

1

Hello everyone!
My Name is Jeffery and I am a senior in high school studying Computer Science. I have gone to national competition 2 years in a row for c++ and visual basic. Repl.it has had some nice snippets of code I look through and has given me some great ideas in some algorithms I have been working on.I am looking forward to learning new things from this site and making connections with other programmers!

1

Hi! My name is Shane. I love programming in HTML/JS to make Interfaces, Games, Algorithms, and tons of web apps. I am always making something new! Repl.it helps me a lot by providing a side-by-side interface that allows me to see the source right next to the web-view. My goal is to someday make a worthwhile and popular website!

Join me at https://band.us/n/a0afX7efn4n8w

1

@Vandesm14 Thanks for joining us, Shane ;)

1

Hello everyone!

My name is Nathan and I've been teaching English as a foreign language for 10 years and I'm interested in a career change into IT. I'm 31, from Ireland and I love skateboarding.

1

@NathanAllison1 Nice, welcome! Glad to see other teachers here (I used to be a high school CS teacher) :)

1

@timmy_i_chen Thanks for the reply Timmy. How long have you been studying for here?

1

@NathanAllison1 If you mean how I learned all this stuff, I learned on my own during my third year of teaching when I realized I might be looking for a career change. Lots of online videos, tutorials, and googling. Some paid, some free. The classic "throw everything and see if anything sticks" strategy.

1

@timmy_i_chen Haha nice. If you flick enough stuff some of it is bound to stick. So are you working in the industry now?

1

Hello can someone please try my program it's a basic program that I made when the girl I like moved and I didn't tell her i liked her so here is the link and tell me what you think https://repl.it/@ddiaz131/The-love-game

1

@ddiaz131 i liked it! Its a really good program... (id rather not say who's name i typed it for the person i like but its still a good program)

1

@UndertaleRulez ok I was going to add the function to hide what the user types but it doesn't work on repl.it but thankyou

1

@ddiaz131 wait.. so does that mean you know what i typed?!?!?!

1

No I didn’t add the function to store user’s information because it’s the something I need to know. @UndertaleRulez

1

Sup people, My name is John and I'm 12. I'm an average programmer who lives in the U.S.A and just mess around with Python with hopes of getting better and learning from the rest

1

I'm a human being named Neil. I like to do programming, and my specialties are Python 2 and a bit of Ruby. I like playing games like Batman: Arkham Origins, Geometry Dash(I have no life... I say this because I have over 70 hours on that game), and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I have been working on a text based adventure in Python 2, and I often do the odd program, here and there. If anyone wants to do a program with me, I would be delighted! I am on Discord and Skype.
So excited to get to know you guys!
Neil

1

When did all this happen???

1

Hey there!

I'm David and I'm entering high school this year in Ontario, Canada and I enjoy coding with Python 3.

Hello World!

My name is John, and I am a High School Senior and a self taught (albeit novice) programmer. I found REPL a year ago or so, and I loved the convenience of an IDE on the Internet, so I could access my code at any time, from anywhere.

I mainly program in C#, but I know a bit of Python, C, C++, and Java. I can't wait to see what you guys create, and I can't wait to create some things of my own!

Hey!
I go by gingerbear online, I've been learning js for 3 weeks so repl.it has helped a lot when it comes to showing off code!. I know html/css and am going to be learning python/php in the near future. Only 'cool' thing I've really made so far is a fake typer to change text on a webpage.
