Do you guys like my new logo?
DynamicSquid (1961)

So I'm making a language called "Night",

check it out on github and star it

and I need a logo. I'm not the best logo designer in the world, but I'm think maybe something like this:

It's really blurry since I make that in Processing and took a screenshot, but I like the general design of it. Maybe the N could be bigger as well. What are your guy's thoughts?

Maybe a black background with stars and a moon in the middle? I think that could look cool, but this is good if you prefer it!

DynamicSquid (1961)

@mathiasaboye yeah, i was thinking about a moon too. definitely going to try to add that in. thanks!!

CodeLongAndPros (875)

Nice, but I made a filter for it:

DynamicSquid (1961)

@CodeLongAndPros oh that's not too bad. I still haven't yet experimented with filters though

agent9002 (3)

@CodeLongAndPros as if this is any better, you've ruined it ;(

nathanpenwill88 (5)

@CodeLongAndPros I never knew adding a filter made it any better. You butchered it lmao

CodeLongAndPros (875)

@nathanpenwill88 Now, please, my GIMP skills are not great, still, I kind of like it.

johnstev111 (229)

@CodeLongAndPros I agree with @nathanpenwill88 though, you did destroy it

I just visited the Github project, and um, I know you want this to be an individual project, but this is a recommendation on how to do the multi-word strings. I know you don't know Python much, but I have no idea what C++ is, so here is the code I used when I was attempting to make a computer language to make the string be read as one whole thing:

      elif word[0] in ['"'] and word[-2] != word[0]:
        new_index = source_index
        indexes_passed = 0
        while True:
          indexes_passed += 1
          new_index += 1
          if (len(source_code) - 1) != new_index:
            if source_code[new_index][len(source_code[new_index]) - 2] == '"':
              if indexes_passed == 1:
                tokens.append(['STRING', word + " " + source_code[new_index][0 : len(word) - 1]])
                tokens.append(['STATEMENT_END', ';'])
                break
              else:
                new_indexes_passed = source_index
                for i in range(0, indexes_passed):
                  new_indexes_passed += 1
                  #print(new_indexes_passed)
                  word = word + " " + source_code[new_indexes_passed]
                  #print(word)
                tokens.append(['STRING', word])
                tokens.append(['STATEMENT_END', ';'])
                break

The word variable is for every word separated by a space. Again, sorry but I don't know C++. If you have any questions, cuz this is just part of the whole code, so it's hard to understand, just ask.

DynamicSquid (1961)

@aguy11 oh yeah, it's fine. I was actually thinking of something like that, so thanks!!

SixBeeps (2289)

I like the idea, but maybe make things a little thicker or puffier?

DynamicSquid (1961)

@SixBeeps oh yeah, I was thinking about maybe doing something like that. thanks!!!

Funkus (39)

It looks cool, probably you would want to add a "moon" because your language is called "night", the color theme worked out very well, so yeah this is a great logo!

DynamicSquid (1961)

@Funkus oh yeah, good suggestion, thank you!

SreePaladugu (8)

Maybe in the background you could have a crescent moon But overall it cool!

targetfanttthat (89)

How is the language coming along? I see you have really gotten far with the whole thing!

DynamicSquid (1961)

@targetfanttthat oh it's going great! you helped me a lot! by thursday, I'll have variables, expressions, casts (thanks to johnstev), and a print statement all on github! I'm still learning a lot as I go along so none of what you see will be in my final language, but I still have a long ways to go. I'm planning to just work on my language for this summer

johnstev111 (229)

Considering it's a programming language, try with a monospace font?

johnstev111 (229)

@DynamicSquid Like this: maybe? (excuse my awful MS Paint skills. The font used is IBM Plex Mono, the same one form my clicker, at font weight 700)

DynamicSquid (1961)

@johnstev111 oh, interesting, never thought to change the font, nice idea!

johnstev111 (229)

@DynamicSquid I also implemented comments for you. On The Night repo

DynamicSquid (1961)

@johnstev111 oh yeah, I got notified, but I just woke up literally 5 min ago, I'm going to check it soon

johnstev111 (229)

@DynamicSquid Hm... maybe there could be more night projects? Like libraries for night? (Once it's done of course)
Maybe something worthy of having an organisation on github?

johnstev111 (229)

@DynamicSquid How about this logo? (Was made in p5.js, which is processing except in javascript)

DynamicSquid (1961)

@johnstev111 yeah, I like the font better. what font is it?

johnstev111 (229)

@DynamicSquid IBM Plex Mono, bold. The same one from my MS Paint attempt

DynamicSquid (1961)

@johnstev111 umm... I kind of want to do this language by myself. like in the first couple weeks, I'm always open to contributions since I've never done this before and I'm still learning and stuff, but over time, I'd like this to become a more individual project with me just doing everything

johnstev111 (229)

@DynamicSquid Hm... ok, you can take my code for casts and run... unless you want this to be firmly as a collab

DynamicSquid (1961)

@johnstev111 yeah sorry, I kinda want this to be more of an individual project, but I'll still mention you for the casts though

johnstev111 (229)

@DynamicSquid OK, I'm leaving. Goodbye (that is on the night project, not everywhere)

HahaYes (903)

If it is called night, you need to have a sun as your logo. Smh obvious intelligence

CodeLongAndPros (875)

@HahaYes No, Sun bad. (Well, better than Oracle or M$)

HahaYes (903)

@CodeLongAndPros what else then.... a chickenugget?

CodeLongAndPros (875)

@HahaYes It's a Tech joke. Sun micro-systems, acquired by Oracle, which is the butt of the Linux community.

HahaYes (903)

@CodeLongAndPros oh, I'm laughing too much at r/wallstreetbets. They make my 19% return last week look like a joke.

CodeLongAndPros (875)

@HahaYes I like r/talesfromtechsupport and r/linuxmasterrace

HahaYes (903)

@CodeLongAndPros r/linuxmasterrace is pretty good, but I feel like the only person who is good at linux tho

HahaYes (903)

@CodeLongAndPros I'm a teen, and I have already lost 10k from call options, but I gained 15k XD

CodeLongAndPros (875)

@HahaYes Yeah?

free | head -n 2 | tail -n 1 | awk '{$2=$2/(1024^2); print $2, "GB"}'

HahaYes (903)

Hmmm no bubbly font so no good

CodeLongAndPros (875)

Also, perhaps strength the N like the NCC-1701 does in star trek right before warp.

Centslord (99)

Thank you @DynamicSquid, very cool.
BTW, what software did you make this with? What is "Processing"?

DynamicSquid (1961)

@Centslord it's a language that makes it very easy to create graphcis

johnstev111 (229)

@Centslord It's basically p5.js except in java

Bookie0 (2600)

It’s nice!
Suggestion: what about a crescent moon 🌙 (but maybe purple or something like that) with like a sort of wavy starts around it, then a coat of black to finish for the background. You could add little specs of gold and silver on the starts and moon.

Good luck and I hope this helps! =)

DynamicSquid (1961)

@Bookie0 oh nice suggestion, thanks!

Bookie0 (2600)

Sure,

please make this answer as correct if it helped you! ;)
