Why are there a million of these IDE-less IDEs?
thedanwhaley (0)

Been trying to break into regular software development, and every course, test, or tutorial has a different IDE-less IDE to "learn on". I'm here because of Operation Code Platoon and they picked this one.

This is like XKCD #927 Standards. https://xkcd.com/927/

In repl's case you don't have to download and learn the various layouts of IDEs when attempting to run a little code snippet. Saves time.

@mwilki7 except that you missed 99.999999% of my point; there are so many, I now have to learn and troubleshoot them all, which wastes more time than working with 1 of a small handful of regular IDEs.

@thedanwhaley Not much to troubleshoot for repl which is why I stated in repl's case because all you have is code that either compiles/runs or doesn't. There is no IDE on repl besides a FTP to your project directory.

@mwilki7 yet here I am troubleshooting: https://repl.it/talk/ask/SHould-I-be-able-to-copy-code-out-of-a-Repl/17413

For whatever reason, this is a common problem with all these web based IDEs.

@thedanwhaley I'm not sure what the question is asking and neither is the person who replied to your question.

@thedanwhaley Please remember that repl.it is a pioneering web based IDE and that problems are bound to happen. That's just how development works, especially with something this relatively new.
