A beginners guide to replit!

Before I got hacked, I really liked this tutorial that I made and just wanted to repost it so I can help more beginners! And just because someone has few cycles does not mean that they are a beginner!

A small introduction

Anyway's, Welcome to Replit! Replit is an IDE. Which means its a software that lets you code more software! If you are new to repl it (I've been here for a while now), this might be good for you. Here are some simple steps to get started:

1.Select a language

There are many languages to choose from, but which one is for you?

Python - Super easy and is used a lot. (Though its kinda slow because it downloads a bazillion packages and all that)

C++ - A little hard but very fast

nodeJS - Used for backend development! This nice language can do networking stuff better that any other language! At least, according to me.

HTML, CCS, JS - These are used to make programs that make your program look better. It also makes up the web

More: https://repl.it/languages

2. Learn the basics

For me, the basics are:

-Syntax

-Displaying text

#Python
print("Hello, World!")

Loops

//C++
//This is a loop!
#include<iostream>
using namespace std;
int main() {
while(true) {
cout << "Hi!\n";
 }
}

Operators

#Python
print(5 * 5)

If else

#Python
if 10 == 5*2:
  print("5*2 is 10!")
else:
 print("5*2 is not 10 somehow!")

-Functions

def sayHello():
  print("hi!")
sayHello();

-arrays/lists

Fruits = ["Banana", "Apple", "Strawberry"]
print(Fruits)

3.Make a small repl

Try making a little calculator or game using the stuff you learned

4.Post your repl on Repl Talk!

Share your Amazing repl on repl talk to get feedback!

5.Earn cycles

Cycles are basically useless internet points that dont really do anything. But I like to think of them as experience points. But you should not really worry of these, as they are useless and dont mean anything!

How to Earn cycles

Post's - People can upvote your posts if they like it.

Comments - People can also upvote your comments!

Answering questions - You can earn 5 cycles if somebody finds your answer correct!

The amount of upvotes a post or comment has looks like this:

And to see how much cycles you have, Look at the number next to your username. For example, I have 16

Tutorials and resources!

6. W3 schools and tutorialspoint are really good at explaining tutorials!

But there are also other great resources!
Tutorial - W3schools
Tutorial - tutorialspoint
Resource - Stack Overflow
Resource - Geeks for Geeks
Packages - Github
Packages - npm
I hope this guide helped if you are a beginner!

Tips!
Don't give up! Never Give up!

Dont go thinking that you are a Pro coder just because you know how to do hello, world! or any of your 'lobby bot' things!

Many beginner's try to do complicated stuff like Node js and stuff like that. Dont do that! Instead, start with the basics and keep practicing! Learn a new programming language!

And code every day! This will help you practice!

And most importantly, dont give up! Again!

Coding is easy to learn, but hard to master.

Bookie0 (4983)

@elipie that doesn't mean they can repost

CodeLongAndPros (1535)

Oh and if your account (old one) was comprised, I can ban it to prevent any more spam, if you'd like.

Bookie0 (4983)

its a thing-a-ma-jig

a bit more precision?

//C++
#include<iostream>
using namespace std;
int main() {
while(true) {
cout << "Hi!\n";
}
}

indentation betta

5.Earn cycles

terrible advice!!!

-Functions
-arrays/lists

examples...?

I have 140 cycles currently.

no.

  1. W3 schools and tutorialspoint are really good at explaining tutorials!

is that all? geeks for geeks? official websites of languages? videos?stackoverflow?

and what about the repl.it discord?

anyways you should remove this post, it's bad to repost lol
plus, it isn't that long and precise, you could have at least added much more stuff, and precise additional stuff. and remove the part about earning cycles

@Bookie0 For the cycles part, my old account was hacked and so I have like 16 cycles now, and I will not take down this post because:
1. Its my submission for the tutorial jam

  1. I guess its useful, and I dont want it to get lost with all the other posts which are abandoned .
  2. Thats it lol

And not I am not farming cycles, that's stupid.

I will just updated the less specific parts like the thing a ma jig part.

Bookie0 (4983)

@Squirrel777

BRUH

so I can just repost my tutorials as well "because i don't want them lost with all the other posts which are abandoned"? Even if this is a submission, you can't just repost something you already did. this is spam lol

That word— it does not mean what you think it means.
