Severe Lack of Moderation
h
Zavexeon (1036)

If it is not obvious, repl.it has a severe lack of moderation. The repl.it talk boards are full of trolls and spammers and that quite frankly hurts the reputation of this otherwise lovely site.

I'm sure that the repl.it team is quite aware of this issue, but I have not noticed a decrease in troll posts and general spam. In fact, levels actually seem to be increasing.

My suggestion is to employ more staff. I'm sure there are many trustworthy members on repl.it who would voluntarily moderate repl.it. That includes myself. Please, repl.it team, please increase moderation on repl.it talk.

This issue will not solve itself, and I am merely providing my opinion on a possible solution.

Hey guys, sorry about the lack of communication on this from our side. We've grown a lot in the past 2 months -- more than doubled our monthly active users -- and it's been a struggle on all angles.

I'll make sure this gets more love. In the mean time would love some help in the moderation. @Zavexeon I'll make you a moderator. Who else wants to help?

Zavexeon (1036)

@amasad I'd happily help moderate replit. It'll certainly take a bit more than just me though.

And thank you for addressing the situation. I'm not trying to sound rash but it's just something that has personally been bothering me, and I'm sure others, for some time.

AllAwesome497 (335)

@amasad Recommendation I'd make is maybe limited perms for helpers on the discord server. I don't think that any helper on the discord server would abuse this power, and typically one of us sees it first, and reports it.

amasad (2551)

@AllAwesome497 yes it'd be good to also do it automatically based on certain karma thresholds

AllAwesome497 (335)

@amasad yeah that could also work. I'd say 250 would be a good amount, bc u can get a lot of karma from a good comment or a likable post.

@amasad Id happily moderate this site, although I apologize for the late response. I regularly visit the feed, and am tired of seeing spam, or people that abuse the comments.

SaptarshiHalder (43)

@amasad I would be happy if I get a chance too.

eekboi (272)

@amasad sorry fir the late response (oops) but I think i could help with moderating this site. If not thats fine, but if so, thatd be cash money.

Warhawk947 (525)

@amasad Sorry for late response, but I would also like to help moderate this site

[deleted]

I'd be happy to help, entirely unpaid!!! @amasad

Finally, someone else who has observed this!

NityeshAgarwal (33)

Although I have been using repl.it for a few months now, I only recently checked out their community pages on repl.it talk. And this is something that I have observed myself.

Apart from this, I have also noticed how an extremely large majority of the posts on the share board are about people building some game. Is there some correlation? Nevertheless, I think repl.it talk could be a lot more interesting if there was more diversity in the projects that people are sharing.

Zavexeon (1036)

@NityeshAgarwal People just like making games, I guess. They're pretty fun to create, actually.

Anyways, repl.it just recruited a bunch more of moderators (including myself) today, so lets see how the situation progresses from now on.

MrMinimax (139)

so I made a little thing sitting in 6th-grade social studies that if you type the first letter of a curse word

rediar (351)

Well, there was a thingy made by @mat1 , that was a discord bot that detects spam in replit posts, but it doesnt work very well.

GavHern (81)

This would be a good post for the feedback forms

PaoloAmoroso (143)

@GavHern I did submit my feedback https://repl.it/feedback/p/repl-talk-needs-proper-spam-filters But I got the impression there wasn't much perception of the volume of spam and distracting content and their negative consequences on the platform. Repl Talk could indeed use some love but Repl.it has a small staff working on many cool projects.

mat1 (3382)

I think they just need an automatic filter to detect spam posts tbh

theangryepicbanana (1639)

I try to moderate whenever I can (the shrek guy has been banned from repl talk), however I cannot always be here. I can ask some of the other mods about activity on here though, since I'm much more active than they are. Afaik, the repl.it team is working on an improved board system to help cut down on the spam here

PDanielY (1094)

@theangryepicbanana you could employ more moderators (like me)

PDanielY (1094)

@theangryepicbanana also there was more than one Shrek guy, did you ban all of them?

theangryepicbanana (1639)

@PDanielY I cannot employ moderators (or if I can, idk how). also no I didn't ban all of them, but I will if need be

[deleted]

@theangryepicbanana
1. Whos the shrek guy?
2. Your a good modertor

mwilki7 (1105)

@TaylorLiang iirc there were like 4 users with shrek profile pictures yesterday and spammed a ton of posts about shrek

[deleted]

@mwilki7 oh.
send screenshots

mwilki7 (1105)

@TaylorLiang
sadly i didnt take screenshots
the shrek pictures are just ordinary ones you'd find on google images

[deleted]

@mwilki7 oooof

firefish (599)

@theangryepicbanana I found one guy I found just by putting "Shrek" in the Repl talk search his name is shrekanddonkey. I found his only post and reported it, hopefully he can be removed. He doesn't seem like a spammer, but his repls look very spammy.
